Richard Teaster, First Baptist's Music Director, holds degrees in vocal performance from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts and Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music. He completed further professional studies at the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and the Pittsburgh Opera Center.
Mr. Teaster has been Director of Music at FBC since 2004, where he leads the sanctuary choir and the women's choral ensemble, as well as serves as pianist and organist.
He has been a faculty member at the University of Pittsburgh since 1999, where he teaches private andclass voice and directs the Pitt Men’s Glee Club, an ensemble in residence at First Baptist Church. He is also a voice instructor of musical theater at Carnegie Mellon University's School of Drama and was formerly Assistant Director of Choral Activities at Duquesne University.
In 2017, Mr. Teaster founded the Steel City Men’s Chorale, a community-based men’s choral ensemble devoted to promoting quality men’s choral music in the greater Pittsburgh region.
